How to connect and back up a WordPress site
See WordPress health in seops and send UpdraftPlus backups to Cloudflare R2.
seops connects to WordPress read-only with an application password. For backups the free UpdraftPlus plugin sends files and the database to Cloudflare R2; seops watches the latest backup and warns when it goes stale.
What opens in seops
- WordPress status: posts, pages, drafts, recent changes, plugins, Site Health
- Backups: latest UpdraftPlus file, alert when stale
Steps
-
Create an application password
In WordPress admin go to Users → Profile, scroll to Application Passwords, name it
seops, click Add New Application Password. Copy the password. -
Enter the username in seops
In seops open Settings › Project settings and find the Connections · backups and WordPress card. Fill WordPress username, Save. There is no password field: the application password is added to the panel's Cloudflare Worker as a Secret whose name is shown under the username (for example
WP_APP_PASSWORD_EXAMPLE_COM); the panel admin does this. -
Create an R2 API token
Cloudflare → R2 → Manage API tokens → Create API token. Permission Object Read & Write, scoped to one bucket for backups. Copy Access Key ID, Secret Access Key and the endpoint.
-
Install UpdraftPlus
WordPress → Plugins → Add New → search
UpdraftPlus→ Install Now → Activate. -
Set R2 as remote storage
Settings → UpdraftPlus Backups → Settings. Remote storage S3-Compatible (Generic); paste keys and endpoint; location
your-bucket/example.com. Schedule files weekly, database daily. Save Changes, then Backup Now to test. -
Check the backup in seops
There is nothing to pick in seops: it reads the site's folder in the panel's backup bucket. The latest UpdraftPlus file shows in the WordPress column under Settings › Infrastructure › Connections, and seops warns when it is older than the schedule.
